High metal removal rates at high feeds with durable tools from Hitachi Tool.

All Ways to Contour.

The new “All-Way” end mill ensures the fastest way to contour.

It’s not always a straight line to get from the raw material to the contoured mould, from roughing through semi-finishing and finishing many processes are sometimes necessary even on relatively simple geometries. A new way to deal with this is now presented by Hitachi Tool Engineering: the new series of solid carbide roughing tools Epoch Mirus can give positive results in the very early stages of machining. This is possible due to the advanced carbide substrate, TH60+ coating and unique new tool geometry.

Generally the high metal removal of roughing tools is achieved through the use of a small part of the cutting edge only, complex geometries must therefore be machined with a constant z-axis strategy not so though with Epoch Mirus end mills. Using the “All-Way” features of the tool the material can be machined with the full length of the cutting edge as well as with the front of the tool – even alternating and at constant high feed rates. This takes the hassle out of having to switch tools to use between different machining operations. The result is a faster resemblance of the final contour shape and a drastically reduced process time.

Epoch Mirus, Type-R Epoch Mirus, Type-N

As the application of solid carbide roughing tools differ in mould and die and production industries Hitachi Tool offers two types of Epoch Mirus end mills: The R-Type for die and mould and the N-Type for production use. While the emphasis on the N type is on the durability the R type is more able to reduce the actual cutting force, this difference ensures optimal performance for both applications. The configuration of the cutting geometry is distributed unevenly on both types to reduce vibrations and therefore maintain constant cutting forces for the tool and machine.

Additionally, the double gash geometry in the center provides stability and fast chip removal on axial usage, e.g. ramping or plunging.

The Epoch Mirus series consists of 4 diameters per type (from 6 to 12 mm). High-strength micro carbide substrate and TH60+ coating ensure process safety at up to 55 HRC.
